Get stories like these delivered straight to your inbox.

A good friend who I’d met in Abekouta, Ogun state capital sent me the mail I’ll share below of how paramount issues like education have been totally abandon because all effort and resources is channeled to retain power by the governor Amosun-led administration. Sadly enough the situation is the same in all the states and even at the centre. For how long shall we continue like this as a Nation? Lets voice out for education!

Find below the open letter to Governor Amosun by the Academic Staff Union of  Secondary Schools of  Nigeria (ASUSS), Ogun State Chapter.

His Excellency, Governor
Amosun,
Executive Governor of Ogun state,
Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta,

Through:
The Head of Service,
Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan
Abeokuta.

Your Excellency sir,

PLACING THE STATE GOVERNMENT ON RED ALERT(NOTICE OF TRADE DISPUTE)

The union has noticed with concerns:

(1) Government’s failure in Responding to Correspondences;

(2)Government’s several unkept promises; and

(3) Government’s failure to match commitments to teachers’ welfare with action. ASUSS, rising from its State Executive Council meeting of Friday 9th January; 2015 resolved if the demands stated below are not met, the union may not be able to guarantee the continuous services of its members (secondary school teachers) in the state.

We find it germane to remind the government of teachers’ demand thus: (a) full payment of 27.5percent Teachers Peculiar Allowance (PTA)

(b) Payment of 2014 Leave Allowance to Officers on Grade level 13 and above;

(c) Remittance of deductions to: Cooperative Societies, Bank Loans and Union subscriptions from October to December 2014;

(d) Payments of running grants to secondary schools for four terms;

(e) Conduct of 2014 Promotion Exercise;

(f) Appointment of new Principals-General to fill existing vacancies

(g) Recruitment of more teachers to fill the existing vacancies.

(h) Pension deductions remittance

Accept our regards

Signed:
Comrade Akeem Lasisi                                  Comrade Joseph Banjo
State Chairman                                              State Secretary.
