EMERGING ECONOMY NEEDS TECHNOLOGY TO GROW – Hon Rasaq Ajala

The Chairman, Odiolowo/Ojuwoye LCDA Hon Rasaq Olusola Ajala, yesterday delivered a speech on behalf of the deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Quadri Hamzat, at the summit organised by Comrade Ijaoba Jamiu, a student in the faculty of Engineering, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos State.

Responding to questions from the journalists on the importance of the programme, Hon Ajala said: “For emerging economy such as Nigeria, we need technology and engineering to solve most of the problems we have in our country. Education, sanitation, road infrastructure and many others need technology input.
He added: “For our economy to compete favourably with our counterparts in the developed nations, technology and engineering remain the veritable tool towards the realisation of the greater vision Sanwoolu’s Administration has for Lagos State.

When asked how the summit would be beneficial to Nigeria and Africa as whole, Hon Ajala said: “Engineering summit like any other summits is a veritable platform for the students, entrepreneurs, other participants and our future leaders to acquire which they would leverage to solve the multifaceted challenges we are facing as a nation.

He also believed that the country is ready for these challenges. He called on those who believed in greater Lagos to use their resources and talents to help this administration so that we can feature among the comity of developed nations.

He said: “Lagos as a subnational state has resolved to invest and make necessary researches. He calls on other states to key into the same determination Sanwoolu’s administration has so that we can take our rightful position in the comity of developed nations.”

At the event were the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Professor Damola Oke, Personal Assistant to the Vice Chancellor, Mr Wale Anthony, Engnr. Ogunlewe, Sub-dean, Faculty of Engineering, Lagos State University, Captains of industries, entrepreneurs and students across various tertiary institutions in the country.
