FEDERAL Polytechnic, Damaturu, has embarked on a reform and increase in the number of courses run by the institution.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Kallamu Usman, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Damaturu.

He said the new courses included the National Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning, National Diploma in Computer Engineering, National Diploma in Marketing, National Diploma in Public Administration, and National Diploma in Agricultural Engineering. Other courses are Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering, Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering and Higher National Diploma in Physics Electronics.

“All the new courses have been inspected and accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE),” he said.
Usman said when he assumed office on Jan. 16, 2017, the classrooms, laboratories and other structures were in a horrible state.

“So the classes, lecture theatres and laboratories have to be renovated to create a conducive atmosphere for effective teaching and learning,” he said.
He lauded the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for granting special intervention fund to the institution to complete the project.

The rector added that from the TETFund’s intervention the management was currently building School of Engineering.

Usman said that the institution had established water producing outfit, block moulding industry and revived the institution’s filling station to boost revenue generation.
