Pupils Win Tablets, Water Dispensers at Landmark College Interschool Debate

Three pupils of primary schools within Ikorodu have won Tecno tablets, water dispensers and other prizes at the interschool debate organised by Landmark College, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The interschool debate, which was held on Thursday 30th January 2020, in the school magnificent hall, was organised for primary schools within Ikorodu axis.

About 19 primary schools that participated in the competition debated on the topic: “Doctors are better than teachers”.

Articulating and reinforcing their points before the large audience and panel of judges, the school representatives brilliantly argued for and against the motion.

Three school representatives with sophisticated points emerged winners of the debate.

Appearance, fluency, articulation and presentation of points, were the criteria employed to judge and grade the participants.

While Ojutule Atubeh, who represented Geoann School, emerged first position, Akakpo Oluwaferanmi,
and Amarachi Dimkpa, of Supreme Child scored the same points, and were awarded the second.

Each representative was presented a Tecno Tablet and a water dispenser.

Presenting the first two prizes, the Vice Principal of Landmark College, Dr Olatunji Abiola, commended the school representatives for their excellent performance.

“During my days, even at secondary school, English was a bit difficult. I must commend these smart pupils for their brilliant presentation and articulation of points,” he stated.

The presentation of the last prizes to the winner was done by the school Principal, Mr A.J Sanni.

In his presentation, Mr Sanni J.A, commended the participants for their boldness to stand before the large audience and eloquently articulate their points.

He added that the debate was organised to encourage primary school pupils to exhibit their talent.

“The competition is aimed at bringing out the best from pupils. It will also build in you, courage, one of the prerequisite skills in public presentations,” the Principal noted.

“I sincerely appreciate the efforts of all participating schools. Those who did not win today will surely win some other times. You have all done well,” he added.

While giving the vote of thanks, the Vice Principal, leveraged the opportunity to introduce Landmark Scholarship Examination to the pupils.

He stressed that best two candidates in the examination, which is slated for March 14, 2020, would be awarded a full scholarship by the Landmark College.

The debate coordinator and Head of Humanities, Mr Timothy Adegunle was supported by members of the department: Miss Vivian Utulu, Mrs Omolayo, Ogunsanwo, Mr Tunji Agboola, Messrs Felix Ilesanmi and Akeem Alao Babatunde.
