1. Rufus Giwa Polytechnic was originally established as Ondo State Polytechnic, in 1979 by the then Ondo State Government.
2. In 2003, the institution was renamed Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in honour of Chief Rufus Folusho Giwa, a prominent businessman and indigene of Owo. Chief Giwa was known for his contributions to business, community development, and education in Ondo State.
3. RUGIPO is strategically located in the ancient town of Owo, which lies in the northern part of Ondo State.
4. With its establishment over four decades ago, RUGIPO is one of the oldest polytechnics in Nigeria’s South-West region.
