10 NYSC members set for India’s youth exchange programme

Ten corps members are set to jet off to India on Sunday for a youth exchange programme.

The annual event, celebrating India’s independence anniversary, attracts participants from diverse corners of the globe, fostering cultural understanding and collaboration.

The NYSC, in a statement released by Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, disclosed the upcoming journey, emphasizing its role in showcasing Nigerian youth potential.

The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Y. D. Ahmed, expressed gratitude for the second consecutive invitation, highlighting the opportunity to explore socio-economic similarities and differences between the two countries.

At a pre-departure briefing held at the Indian High Commission in Abuja, General Ahmed encouraged the corps members to uphold the core values of the scheme during the programme. He anticipated that insights gained from the Indian National Cadet Corps would be instrumental in enhancing NYSC programs.

Indian High Commissioner in Nigeria, Shri Balasubramanian, praised the NYSC’s contributions to Nigeria’s development, citing its uniqueness and similarities with the Indian National Cadet Corps as the basis for their selection.

Balasubramanian assured the corps members of a memorable and impactful experience, expressing India’s willingness to learn from the NYSC’s experiences.

The high commissioner conveyed India’s satisfaction with the previous set of corps members who attended the country’s 75th Independence anniversary, urging the current delegation to emulate their predecessors.

All expenses for the trip are covered by the Indian government, with Balasubramanian encouraging the corps members to forge international friendships, explore India’s rich cultural heritage, historical sites, and savor the diverse Indian cuisines.

As these Nigerian youth ambassadors embark on their cultural odyssey, the exchange programme promises to strengthen ties between the two nations, fostering a deeper understanding of each other’s societies and values.
