The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, has announced scholarships for 50 indigent students and the conferment of a chieftaincy title on First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as part of activities marking his 10th coronation anniversary.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Ayangbure Palace in Ikorodu, on Wednesday, addressed by the Chairman, Media and Publicity Sub-Committee of the anniversary planning team, Ayodele Elesho.
According to Elesho, the coronation anniversary will officially begin on Saturday, August 2, 2025, and culminate with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
The programme is designed to celebrate “a decade of dedicated service, cultural preservation and progressive development” under Oba Shotobi’s reign.
“Ten years after his widely celebrated and accepted ascension to the prestigious Ayangburen stool, Oba Shotobi’s reign has, no doubt, witnessed tremendous peace, prosperity, development and progress across the Ikorodu community and, by extension, Ikorodu Division,” he said.
Among the many highlights of the upcoming celebration is the planned conferment of the honorary chieftaincy title of Yeye Oba of Ikorodu on Senator Tinubu.
She is among a list of “deserving eminent individuals” to be honoured during the weeklong festivities.
Elesho stated that in addition to the cultural fanfare, a scholarship award would be presented to 50 indigent students from the community, an initiative he noted aligned with the monarch’s commitment to sustainable development and social impact.
He said, “Suffice to say that this auspicious milestone celebration of Kabiyesi’s 10th coronation anniversary marks a decade of dedicated service, cultural preservation and progressive development, all of which are the hallmarks of the remarkable reign of our revered first-class traditional ruler.
“For record purposes, notable among the key achievements under the reign of Kabiyesi is the creation of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited, whose establishment was spearheaded by Oba Shotobi as the Chairman of Ikorodu Division Council of Obas and Chiefs, alongside other Obas in Ikorodu Division, in 2022.
“Since its formation, IDPIL, under the distinguished leadership of High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya (SAN), the Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom, security in Ikorodu has witnessed unprecedented improvements.
“Ditto for impactful interventions in the area of security, health, education, environment and road rehabilitation among other sectors of Ikorodu division.”
He added, “As we gear up for the commencement of this epoch-making celebration, we use this medium, on behalf of the Alayeluwa, to appeal for the full participation, robust support and cooperation of all and sundry towards having a peaceful and successful 10th coronation anniversary celebration.”
