68 UNN students receive prestigious scholarship awards

A total of 68 deserving students originating from Delta State and currently enrolled at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), were honored with scholarships during the 3rd Chief Dr. Jude and Dr. Yolanda Ndudi Scholarship awards ceremony.

Spearheaded by the philanthropic efforts of Chief Ndudi Ozah, the Isagba of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, this initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden faced by underprivileged students from Delta State studying at UNN.

Amidst the ceremony held at UNN, Professor Ike Onyishi, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the UNN liaison for the scholarship, stated the substantial impact of the programme in supporting the beneficiaries.

In a time of economic hardship, the scholarship funds serve not only to offset tuition fees but also contribute significantly to students’ living expenses, which have become increasingly challenging due to soaring inflation rates.

Professor Onyishi highlighted the versatility of the funds, noting that they assist graduates with clearance fees, transportation costs, and other associated expenses.

The palpable enthusiasm displayed by students during the award distribution underscores the tangible benefits they derive from the scholarship, fostering a stronger sense of community and cultural identity among UNN students.

Acknowledging Chief Ozah’s unwavering commitment to education and human capital development, Professor Onyishi commended him as a beacon of philanthropy and a catalyst for positive change.

Similarly, Joachim Akpo, the National President of the Delta State Students Association at UNN, cited the inclusive selection process, which prioritises orphaned students and newcomers, thereby fostering a supportive environment for all Delta State students at UNN.

Grateful recipients, including Nkechi Onyegu and Chinonso Nwafor, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Chief Ozah for providing them with a lifeline to pursue their educational aspirations, pledging to utilise the funds judiciously to achieve academic excellence.
