Lagos train accident: Primary school pupil survives

A nine-year-old boy, identified simply as David, was among the survivors of the train accident that occurred on Thursday at the PWD bus stop, Lagos State.

Edugist sighted David with a bruise on his face lying on one of the beds placed under the tents provided for victims of the accidents at the premises of the surgical emergency of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. A victim of the crash who had a minor injury and craved anonymity said the primary school pupil was sitting beside his mother in the bus when the incident happened.

“David attends a school close to the secretariat and he joins his mother every morning. He was sitting beside his mother in the bus when the incident happened.

“We were brought here together but her mother was badly injured and currently in the intensive care unit. Her case is very critical and I hope she survives it,” the victim said.

The PUNCH reported that six people were confirmed dead while an unspecified number of people were injured after a passenger train crushed a Lagos State Government staff bus on its way from Ikotun en route Alausa, the state secretariat, at the PWD bus stop area of the state.The accident happened around past 7 am, Thursday, March 10.
