Mater Amabilis Secondary School, located in Umuoji, Anambra State, has emerged as the winner of the prestigious 2023 National Entrepreneurship Exhibition and Awards competition.

The school’s students faced fierce competition from 20 other top secondary schools across the nation to claim this remarkable victory.

Organised by the Nigerian division of Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship, this annual competition aims to equip students with entrepreneurial and technical skills.

The event took place from June 25 to 28, 2023, at the Area Council Service Commission House in Garki, Abuja, where participating teams showcased their innovative ideas and entrepreneurial abilities.

The judges were particularly impressed by Mater Amabilis Secondary School’s exceptional projects, securing them the overall first position.

Their projects included a groundbreaking hydroelectric device that converts saltwater into electricity and a versatile agro machine capable of performing various tasks such as weeding, irrigating, seeding, fumigating, and monitoring soil moisture and nutrient levels.

These remarkable solutions showcased the students’ creativity, innovation, and dedication to addressing crucial societal challenges.

As a result, Mater Amabilis Secondary School has earned the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the upcoming SAGE World Cup in Italy later this year.

The gold-winning students have also been awarded a 100 percent scholarship to study at Cyprus International University.

The team was led by Joshua Ekeh and Grace Amamudi, with Ekeh also receiving the esteemed SAGE Best Mentor of the Year award.

Reverend Father Francis Onwuchulum, the Manager of Mater Amabilis Secondary School, expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the students for their exceptional performance, recognizing it as yet another milestone in the school’s history of success.

Onwuchulum encouraged the award-winning students “to remain focused on their studies and to view this triumph as a stepping stone towards even greater accomplishments in life.”

He commended Most Reverend Valerian Maduka Okeke, the Archbishop of Onitsha and the school’s proprietor, as the driving force behind the school’s recent achievements.
