In a significant development for the residents of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, the Lagos State government has approved and inaugurated a new secondary school, Ojuwoye Junior and Senior Comprehensive High School, aimed at improving accessibility to quality education in the region.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Adeleye Public School on Damengoro Street, marking a momentous occasion for the local community.
Dignitaries and community leaders gathered to celebrate the realisation of this long-anticipated project.
The Chairman of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, Rasaq Ajala (HRA), expressed his joy and gratitude for the approval and inauguration of the school, highlighting the collective effort put forth by stakeholders over the past eight years.
“The journey started about eight years ago when efforts were intensified by all the stakeholders, including myself, a member of the House of Representatives representing Mushin Constituency 1, Honorable Adeyemi Alli, Honourable Nureni Akinsanya, and Education Secretary Princess Akinlude, who wrote letters to the government about the availability of facilities to accommodate the students, and many other stakeholders,” he stated.
He extended his thanks to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, for promptly approving and inaugurating the school, emphasising the positive impact on students’ lives.
“This is another Populist Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu. The blue line rail was inaugurated from Marina to Mile 2 earlier today, and we are happy that this school is also brought to our doorstep.
“This will definitely save our students from traveling long distances from their homes to the school and also save their parents a lot of money on transportation,” he said.
HRA assured the government’s commitment to creating a conducive learning environment and urged parents and students to take ownership of the school by providing necessary materials and supporting the staff.
The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Yusuf Shareefah Ajoke, delivered a keynote address, emphasising the importance of the new school in addressing transportation challenges for students.
She praised the persistence of the local leaders and stakeholders in securing approval for the school.
The highlight of the event was the announcement of the school’s name, Ojuwoye Junior and Senior Comprehensive High School.
Ajoke explained that the comprehensive designation would offer students a range of extracurricular activities, including computer studies, entertainment, photography, and more.
Ajoke called for parents’ support in providing materials and guidance to their children and requested government support for essential items like furniture for both students and staff.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Vice-Chairman of the LCDA, Seyi Jakande, and the Secretary to the LCDA, Mujeeb Ayinde Daramola, among others.
Representatives from the Christian Association and the Nigerian Union of Teachers also graced the occasion.
The approval and inauguration of Ojuwoye Junior and Senior Comprehensive High School mark a significant step forward in enhancing educational access and opportunities for the people of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA.
