The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has approved the promotion of 23 academic staff members to professorial ranks.
This decision was announced by the acting director of Information and University Relations, Habib Yakoob, in a statement.
According to Yakoob, 13 of the academic staff members have been promoted to the prestigious rank of professor, while the remaining 10 have been elevated to the rank of Associate Professor.
This remarkable decision was reached during the 80th Regular Meeting of the Appointment and Promotion Committee (A and PC), held on Friday, June 16, 2023.

The university’s governing council had previously approved their promotions, contingent upon favorable external assessments.
Subsequently, the university sought approval from the ministry of education for the release of these well-deserved promotions to the beneficiaries.
The final step, ratification by the governing council when it is constituted, will complete this process.
This promotion exercise has touched various academic disciplines within the university, including education foundation, medical microbiology, geography, environmental science, history and diplomatic studies, and soil science.
Additionally, other fields that witnessed promotions include Christian religious studies, biological science, statistics, microbiology, veterinary medicine, chemical engineering, public administration, biochemistry, obstetrics and geology, as well as microbiology and parasitology.
In light of this accomplishment, the Vice-Chancellor of UniAbuja, Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, extended his warm congratulations to the newly promoted staff members.
He praised their hard work and dedication to the advancement of knowledge in their respective fields. Na’Allah emphasised the importance of these promotions.
