The University of Abuja’s management has confirmed that academic staff have started receiving their May and June 2024 salaries as of Wednesday.
This confirmation came directly from the University’s bursar, Florence Ajagbonna, who clarified the situation amid false reports suggesting that May salaries were still being withheld. There were also misleading claims about a directive from the vice-chancellor to withhold pay from any academic staff who participated in recent strikes.
“Our academic staff are receiving their salaries. In fact, they have even received their May and June 2024 salaries. And this is cheery news,” stated Mrs. Ajagbonna. She further explained that the University had processed the salaries in a timely manner, but payment completion faced delays due to weekends and a public holiday.
Ajagbonna highlighted the vice-chancellor’s dedication to staff welfare and urged the academic community to continue supporting the University’s management. “The vice-chancellor remains committed to the welfare of our staff, and we ask for their continued support and understanding,” she added.
The prompt action by the University’s administration underscores its commitment to transparency and staff welfare amidst challenging times.
