The highly anticipated finalists for the Africa Education Medal 2024 have been announced, highlighting exceptional educational leaders from across the continent.

Established by T4 Education and HP in 2022, the Africa Education Medal is Africa’s most prestigious education accolade, recognising those who have made significant contributions to improving education and ensuring that every child in Africa has access to quality education.

The Significance of the Africa Education Medal

The Africa Education Medal was the first of the three World Education Medals to be founded, setting a high standard for recognising excellence in education. It celebrates the efforts of those who are sparking change across Africa, bringing together a diverse group of leaders dedicated to creating an Africa where every child can thrive through education.

In the decades leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic, Africa made remarkable progress in boosting school enrolment and educational access. However, the pandemic exacerbated existing challenges, increasing learning poverty and highlighting the urgent need for innovative solutions. The Africa Education Medal acknowledges the critical role of education in Africa’s future and the importance of collective efforts to address these challenges.

This Year’s Finalists

The finalists for the Africa Education Medal 2024 include ten visionary leaders from various countries who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to advancing education. Their contributions range from promoting gender equality in education to integrating technology in classrooms and improving teacher training and development.

– Olanrewaju Oniyitan (Nigeria)
– Nankunda Hope Mwijuka (Uganda)
– Mohammed Haroon (Ghana)
– Julian Hewitt (South Africa)
– Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye (Nigeria)
– Hakeem Subair (Nigeria)
– Christopher Khaemba (Kenya)
– Angeline Murimirwa (Zimbabwe)
– Ahmed Kura (Kenya)
