The University of British Columbia (UBC) offers the prestigious Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, a unique opportunity for outstanding scholars to engage in advanced research in Canada.

Funded by the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Fund for Advanced Studies, the fellowship is designed to support early-career researchers who demonstrate exceptional intellectual ability and strong character, as envisioned by Dorothy Johnston Killam, the benefactor of the program.

Benefits:
The fellowship provides an annual stipend of $60,000 for up to two years, attracting talent from various fields of study to UBC.

Eligibility:
To qualify for the Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, candidates must have completed all the requirements for their PhD no more than 24 months prior to the anticipated start date of the fellowship. This includes the completion of thesis defense corrections and thesis submission, though it does not refer to the convocation date. Extensions may be granted for those who experienced career interruptions due to child-rearing, illness, or other health-related responsibilities. Additionally, applicants must not have pursued PhD-level studies at any UBC campus, and those holding or having held tenure-track or continuing faculty positions are not eligible. Candidates can be of any nationality, but must meet Canadian immigration requirements.

Application process:
The application process begins with identifying the UBC department or unit that aligns with the applicant’s research interests. Once identified, applicants should gather all required documents and submit them to the respective department. A detailed application guide and form can be found on UBC’s official website, along with a list of departments across the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. Early preparation is advised, as each department may set different internal deadlines, which must be adhered to.
