The Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Kevin Aligbe, has stated that failure will not be tolerated as over 200 captains in the Nigerian Army converge on Akure, the Ondo State capital, to take promotional exam to the rank of Major.

Aligbe, who was the examination president, explained that the 2024 Captain to Major Practical Promotion Examination was a major prerequisite to prepare Army captains for selection and to attend the Junior Staff Course at any of the subscribed staff colleges overseas.

Aligbe also noted that the examination was designed to evaluate the proficiency of officers at the rank of captain and to develop their junior leadership capabilities for higher responsibilities in the Nigerian Army.

“Let me assure you all that this is an examination you can pass without resorting to illegal or fraudulent means.

“It is, therefore, important that you approach it with the seriousness and determination that will produce the best result.

“I would like to emphasize that your performance in this examination is a key determinant of your progress in the Nigerian Army.

“So, the examination is not just a mere assessment but a test of your present level of proficiency as well as your capability to undertake higher responsibilities that may be assigned to you now and in the future.

“Fortunately, you are well-trained, and most of you have been in one theatre of operation or another; hence, it is presumed that you all had enough time to prepare for the examination.

“Therefore, there should be no excuse for failure, and I expect nothing short of a 100 percent pass in this examination,” he said.

In his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Maj. Gen. Obinna Onubogu, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Army headquarters for selecting the division to host the 2024 CMPPE.

Onubogu said the division had put in place adequate administrative and logistical arrangements, as well as security measures, during the eaminations.

“Accordingly, the importance of this examination in building the capacity of junior leadership to achieve national security objectives cannot be overemphasised.

“It is important to state that the security situation in Akure town is relatively peaceful but unpredictable. Therefore, you are advised to be security conscious and cautious about where you go.

“The disclosure of information on the movement of participants and other actions that could compromise the security of personnel should be avoided,” he said.
