A former Chairman of the Governing Council of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, Mr Banji Alabi, has called on the state governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to upgrade the institution to university status.
Alabi, in a statement issued in Akure on Monday, revealed that the state government had previously received a proposal to upgrade the polytechnic and urged the governor to act on it.
He said, “I would also like to appeal for the upgrading of Owo Polytechnic, specifically Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, to university status, as previously proposed by the Ondo State Government.
“This initiative could transform Ondo State’s economy by creating a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation. By leveraging the institution’s resources and expertise, you can position Ondo State as a leader in technological advancement and economic growth.”
Congratulating the state governor on his victory in the recent governorship election, Alabi urged Aiyedatiwa to rule with fairness, justice, and equity.
He said, “I extend my warmest congratulations on your well-deserved landslide victory in the governorship election held on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
“Your re-election is a testament to the trust and confidence the people of Ondo State have in your visionary leadership, demonstrated by your widespread popularity and acceptance across every town, village, and local government, including former opposition strongholds.
“As you begin your new term, I urge you to continue ruling with fairness, justice, and equity, addressing the needs of all individuals regardless of social status or background. May your regime be guided by transparency, accountability, and good governance. Your track record of fairness and principled decision-making has inspired hope and confidence in many.
“In these challenging times, our people need compassionate and effective leadership. I implore you to leverage your position to bring hope, relief, and empowerment to the marginalised and downtrodden majority. May your leadership be guided by the constitution, the rule of law, and an unwavering commitment to justice and fairness.”
He further urged the governor to unlock Ondo State’s potential for economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development.
