The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has stated that the commission is fighting corruption and internet crimes to protect the future of students across the country.

Olukoyede made this known in Abuja when students of Britmax International School visited the EFCC headquarters on a study tour.

This was contained in a post shared by the commission on its official X handle on Thursday.

Represented by the Head of EFCC 97.3 FM Radio Station, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Nwanyinma Okeanu, the EFCC chairman said the fight against corruption aimed to eradicate societal vices.

Speaking on the commission’s mandate, Okeanu explained that the EFCC is committed to combating economic and financial crimes and correcting the anomalies affecting the future and dreams of Nigerian youths.

She noted that the commission strives to ensure every young person is treated fairly.

“The job of the EFCC is to sanitize our financial space and ensure everyone is treated equally. The EFCC fights for the people and works to restore the nation’s integrity. The fight against economic and financial crimes starts with you – as students, teachers, and parents,” she said.

Okeanu described corruption as a “cankerworm” that has deeply affected young people and society at large. She emphasized that the anti-corruption fight is for all Nigerians, regardless of age or status, to ensure a better future for the country.

In her remarks, the Head of the Enlightenment and Re-orientation Unit, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, Aisha Mohammed, urged the students to act as ambassadors by spreading the anti-corruption message.

“You are all important stakeholders in the commission. Always have a positive spirit and remember that your voices matter. Be a change agent wherever you are. This engagement is aimed at shaping the mindsets of young people to uphold integrity,” Mohammed said. “The holy book is there to guide you. The future belongs to you, so spread this message. Stand for integrity always.”

Also, Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, Ogunjobi Olalekan encouraged the students to pursue their dreams with determination, hard work, and integrity.

“You can achieve excellence and become anything you aspire to be through determination, hard work, transparency, and accountability. We need future professionals like programmers and forensic analysts. Don’t yield to peer pressure,” Olalekan advised.

During the visit, an EFCC quiz contest was held, with Thomas Oluwatosin Akhigbe and Jahdiel Akinrowo emerging as winners.

The winners were rewarded with mobile phones for their outstanding performance and named EFCC Ambassadors.
