Ayodele Subair, Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), was conferred with an honorary Doctorate Degree in Business Administration (honoris causa) by Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) during its 13th convocation ceremony and 25th anniversary celebrations last Saturday.
The prestigious recognition was awarded to Subair in acknowledgment of his significant contributions to the development of taxation in Nigeria and his exceptional leadership in guiding LIRS to remarkable success.
According to the Vice Chancellor of AAUA, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, the award “recognises his outstanding contributions to the development of taxation in Nigeria and his exemplary leadership in steering the agency to unprecedented success.” Under Subair’s leadership, LIRS has experienced an impressive 310 percent growth in revenue, becoming a benchmark for effective tax administration across the country.
In his acceptance speech, Subair expressed his deep appreciation for the honour and highlighted the transformative power of education. He encouraged the graduates to serve as agents of change and to consistently advocate for education in all aspects of their lives. “I urge you to embrace lifelong learning, for you are the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers who will impact society profoundly,” Subair told the students.
Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Deputy Director of Corporate Communications at LIRS, also shared her pride in Subair’s achievement, stating, “We are incredibly proud of Dr. Subair for this well-deserved honour. This recognition not only celebrates his individual achievements but also reflects the values we uphold at LIRS.
