The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited 10 new undergraduate programmes for Kwara State University (KWASU), set to commence from the 2024/2025 academic session.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, KWASU’s Acting Director of University Relations, revealed that the approval was conveyed through a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh. The letter, signed by the NUC’s Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei, on behalf of the Acting Executive Secretary, highlighted the university’s successful completion of the resource verification process.
“The approval was based on the results of assessments from the resource verification visit carried out by panels of experts to the proposed academic programmes,” the statement noted.
The newly approved programmes include B.Sc. Estate Management, B.Sc. Geography, B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning, B.Sc. Mining Engineering, B.Sc. Marketing, and B.Sc. Sociology. Others are B.Sc. Criminology and Security Studies, B.Sc. Physiology, B.Sc. Human Anatomy, and B.Sc. Cyber Security.
According to the letter, dated December 10, 2024, the programmes will operate in full-time mode, and the university was urged to ensure the provision of adequate human and material resources to support the development and sustainability of the new courses.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor described the approval as “timely” and a testament to the institution’s commitment to producing quality human resources. He further expressed his gratitude to the staff for their dedication, stating, “The approval brings the total number of undergraduate programmes offered by KWASU to 80.”
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the university remains steadfast in its mission to deliver impactful education that addresses societal needs.
