The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed readiness to partner with the Police and other security agencies to ensure the safety of students in the various campuses, particularly in Ondo state.
The Chairman NANS/JCC, Ondo axis, Comrade Oluwarotimi Joshua said he had met with the Commissioner of Police, CO Afolabi Olutokunbo Wilfred on the need to ensure the safety of students.
In his speech, Joshua congratulated the Commissioner on his recent deployment and commended his efforts in enhancing security across Ondo State, particularly in rural communities.
He emphasised that it is a tradition for NANS to establish a familiarisation meeting with any newly appointed Commissioner of Police in the state, ensuring a strong collaborative relationship between the student community and law enforcement agencies.
He reiterated the importance of fostering an open and transparent dialogue to address security concerns affecting students across various tertiary institutions in the state.
The NANS chairman congratulated the police commissioner and his team for their swift and professional intervention in the recent cult clash crisis in Owo town.
He acknowledged that the CP’s prompt actions played a vital role in restoring peace and ensuring that daily activities in the affected areas have returned to normal.
Adding the security presence has made a significant impact in preventing further violence, allowing residents and students to go about their activities without fear.
He appreciated the CP’s dedication to the protection of lives and properties, adding that his commitment to maintaining peace and security across Ondo state communities is non-negotiable.
He urged the Commissioner to continue his good work in ensuring that all crisis-prone areas remain peaceful and safe.
Responding, CP Afolabi Olutokunbo Wilfred expressed his appreciation to the leadership of NANS JCC Ondo for providing critical security information.
He emphasised the importance of maintaining constant engagement between the police and student representatives to enhance campus security and prevent crime.
He noted that to strengthen the partnership between law enforcement agencies and student leadership, he added that NANS JCC Ondo will be integrated into the Community-State Partnership (CSP) Initiative.
According to him the initiative is aimed at fostering collaboration between student representatives, security agencies, and state authorities in addressing shared security challenges across the state.
He, however, urged student leadership to maintain open communication with his office while he assured the student body of collaborations to enhance public safety.
