Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, has commended the exceptional performance of Team Kwara at the recently concluded National Presidential Debate held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Speaking during a reception at the Government House in Ilorin, Governor AbdulRazaq congratulated the victorious students, their schools, and the people of Kwara, describing the achievement as a proud milestone for the state.
“I thank you for making Kwara happy. I will also make you happy in return,” the governor said, as he announced a cash reward of N1 million for each student and N500,000 for each of their instructors.
He also expressed appreciation to the Directors in the Ministry of Education, teachers across the state, and everyone who contributed to the success. “Thank you for making Kwara proud,” he added.
The debate team, which outperformed formidable opponents from Rivers and Enugu states, was made up of Moshood Kamaldeen (Government Secondary School, Ilorin), AbdulAzeez Aishat (Nawarudeen Grammar School, Offa), AbdulAzeez Mudhasir (St. Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin), and Usman Maryam (Ilorin Grammar School, Ilorin).
In his remarks at the event, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, praised Governor AbdulRazaq for his transformative reforms in the education sector.
He noted that the administration’s consistent investment in public education is bearing fruit, as evidenced by the team’s national victory.
“The fruits are now coming in with the sterling performance of the delegates,” Olohungbebe said, encouraging the students to remain focused and committed to excellence.
The reception was attended by senior government officials, including the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Tahuheed Abubakar Bello; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake; ministry directors, school principals, and other dignitaries.
