Abia State College of Education Begins Online Teaching

The Abia State College of Education (Technical) has disclosed plan to commence on-line teaching.

While disclosing this on Saturday 18 April, 2020, in an internal memo, the college Provost, Dr Philips Nto, said the initiative was in line with the directive of the state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.

Dr Nto has directed all deans and heads of departments to collate all necessary logistics required for the immediate take off of the programme.

In the circular, Dr Nto described the directive of the governor as a welcome development aimed at keeping the students academically busy for the period that COVID-19 will last.

The Provost also directed all academic staff of the college to collaborate with their heads of department for briefing so as to make the exercise successful.

“As the epi-centre of the state government’s Education for Employment policy, ASCETA needs to lead not only in science and technology but also in virtual learning,” Dr Nto said.

While commending the efforts of the governor to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the State, Dr Nto stated that “It is laudable that even when the pandemic is yet to creep to the state, the governor has set up isolation centres and medical staff to tackle it.”

He added that Ikpeazu’s immediate lock-down of the state, closure of the borders as well as distribution of palliatives to the vulnerable have yielded results with Abia still remaining virus free.

Dr Nto therefore appealed to the people of the state to continue to support Governor Ikpeazu in his fight to protect the people against the pandemic.
