Nigerian Afrobeats star, Adekunle Gold, has rewarded multiple first-class graduates from various universities with N250,000 each, in recognition of their academic excellence.
The initiative began when the singer, known for his engagement with fans on social media, made a post on X (formerly Twitter) inviting graduates to share proof of their academic achievements.
“If you graduated with First class, post your transcripts,” he wrote, prompting an overwhelming response from users across Nigeria.
True to his word, Adekunle Gold selected several students and credited them with N250,000 each, applauding their commitment to academic distinction.
This gesture adds to the singer’s growing reputation for philanthropy. Through his Adekunle Gold Foundation, he has consistently supported causes related to education and health. One of the foundation’s notable initiatives is a scholarship program for individuals living with sickle cell disease who wish to pursue careers in the music industry. The programme offers full training in areas such as music production, management, and marketing.
In a related trend highlighting Nigeria’s highly educated but underemployed population, popular TikToker Peller conducted an unusual social experiment. He invited 20 master’s degree holders to apply for a cameraman job with a monthly salary of N500,000. Following the interview process, Peller announced that two candidates had been chosen, sparking further conversations about job opportunities and qualifications in the country.
Adekunle Gold’s act of rewarding first-class graduates has since drawn praise from fans and education advocates, who commend his efforts to spotlight and encourage academic achievement in Nigeria.
