The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked reports circulating in some newspapers and online platforms claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Thursday October 16, 2025, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), described the reports as false, baseless, and unauthorized, stressing that the Ministry never made or endorsed such an announcement.
Alausa reaffirmed that JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions across the country. He urged the public, particularly students, parents, and school authorities, to disregard the misleading publication and rely only on verified information from the Ministry and JAMB.
The minister emphasized the Ministry’s continued partnership with JAMB and other education agencies to maintain transparency, fairness, and merit in the admission process. He also cautioned media outlets and online platforms to verify information from official sources before publishing to prevent the spread of misinformation capable of creating confusion in the education sector.
The ministry reiterated that JAMB’s role remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education system, urging the public to visit the official websites and social media pages of both the Ministry and JAMB for credible updates.
