Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has approved the appointment of Professor Emmanuel Kenen as the Acting Vice Chancellor of Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAUM), Makurdi.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, and shared via the Benue State Government’s official X handle on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the governor—who also serves as the Visitor to the state-owned university—made the appointment following the recommendation of the institution’s Governing Council, which nominated Professor Kenen to serve in an acting capacity for a period not exceeding six months. The process, it said, aligns with the legal provisions establishing the university as contained in Gazette No. 3, Vol. 45, Part III, 16 (11 & 12).
Governor Alia, while congratulating the new Acting VC, urged him to uphold the university’s tradition of excellence, discipline, innovation, and moral rectitude, emphasizing that MOAUM must continue to serve as a centre of knowledge and character formation.
“The university must remain a centre of knowledge and character formation, producing graduates who will contribute meaningfully to the development of Benue State and Nigeria at large,” Alia stated.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning tertiary education in Benue State through improved infrastructure, enhanced staff welfare, research advancement, and high academic standards.
Formerly known as Benue State University, MOAUM was established in 1991 and began academic activities in the 1992/93 session with four founding faculties—Arts, Education, Science, and Social Sciences. It was later renamed in honour of the late Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu, the visionary former governor of Benue State (1992–1993).
The appointment of Professor Emmanuel Kenen as Acting Vice Chancellor is widely seen as a move to strengthen leadership and drive continued reforms at the Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi.
