The Sokoto State Executive Council, led by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has approved the third amendment to the 2025 fiscal budget, directing major allocations toward the education and transportation sectors.

The approval was granted during the Council’s 12th regular meeting held on Wednesday at the Government House, Sokoto.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Sambo Bello Danchadi, said the review became necessary to realign the state’s spending with emerging priorities and sustain the pace of ongoing development projects.

He also announced that the Council approved the procurement of modern workshop equipment for the Sokoto State Transport Authority at a contract sum of ₦75.25 million, awarded to Musbat General Investment and Merchants Limited.

Similarly, the Council endorsed the purchase of operational vehicles to enhance security operations in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and support the Ministry of Finance.

Speaking further on the budget amendment, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Aminu Iya, who represented the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, explained that the review was conducted in line with financial regulations and accrual accounting principles.
“The budget amendment was necessitated by the need to realign funds toward priority capital projects across the state,” he said.

According to him, Sokoto has achieved 70 per cent budget performance so far — a reflection of the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline and prudent resource management.
“We redirected funds from sectors with idle balances to those requiring urgent attention, particularly capital projects that impact communities directly. The process strictly followed due legal and financial procedures,” he added.

In the education sector, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ladan Ahmad Ala, revealed that the Council approved a ₦930 million contract for the supply of tables and chairs to public basic and secondary schools across the state.

He noted that five contractors have been engaged for the project, each receiving a 30 per cent mobilisation fee to ensure timely delivery within three months.
“This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to improve learning conditions in our schools and ensure students have a conducive environment for academic excellence,” Prof. Ala stated.

The meeting, attended by members of the State Executive Council, also reviewed several other development initiatives aimed at consolidating the achievements of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration in key sectors such as education, transportation, water supply, and infrastructure.
