APPLY: African Climate Stories Fellowship

African Climate Stories Fellowship is a three (3) month immersive programme, convening Storytellers and Climate Change Advocacy Leaders, with the aim of co-creating climate-themed stories and leading innovative impact distribution multimedia solutions on the most pressing climate crisis in their communities.

Objectives

Supported by the Urban Movement Innovation Fund (UMIF), the Social Change Nest CIC, and implemented by the climate storytelling partners of Monoversal Digital Multimedia, African Climate Stories Fellowships aims to:

• Harness Africa’s pool of storytellers, creatives and multimedia artists to extend their voices, skills and talents towards raising awareness for climate and environmental issues in Africa.

• Build partnerships and raise necessary support to encourage the efforts of climate change advocates, and storytellers passionate in creating stories and multimedia contents to spread climate change awareness and solutions.

• Promote collaborations between storytellers and climate change advocates to find creative solutions to Africa’s climate change crisis.

Benefit

• Fellows will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience learning from climate/environmental experts and how to channel their learnings into creating relatable stories in diverse content formats for educational, informative, or advocacy purposes for climate action.
• Story projects from fellows will have the chance to be published or exhibited online and at physical events designed to promote arts, and contents for climate change education and awareness.
• There will be awards to outstanding fellows.
• Top 5 story projects to partake in a NGN 500,000 prize pool.
• Learn from and connect with leaders in media, storytelling and diverse forms of content creation mediums to expand their climate storytelling skills.
• Become a part of a growing climate storyteller network for support and future opportunities.
• Fellows will have the opportunity to apply knowledge gained during the fellowship period and apply them directly, to build their portfolio as climate storytellers.
• Learn in a more interactive way on the global impact of their personal experiences, stories and solutions to environmental and climate change challenges across communities and regions in Africa.

Eligibility criteria 

• Storytellers in any medium resident in Nigeria and interested in creating climate-themed stories.
• Climate Change Advocates resident in Nigeria with experience in climate storytelling.
• Between the ages of 18 to 35.
• Can afford to attend mandatory in-person opening and closing (graduation) ceremony events in Lagos at their own cost.
• Have access to laptop/phone and internet data to participate in a 10 weeks online program.
