Encourage Science Initiative (ESI) has announced its inaugural call for applications for the ESI Research Grant for undergraduates in Nigeria.

The ESI Undergraduate Research Grant is an initiative that aims to support and promote scientific research among undergraduate students in Nigerian universities.

Under this programme, eligible students engaged in their undergraduate research projects in any science programme at a Nigerian University can apply for a grant of up to NGN50,000.

The grant is specifically designated to cover part of the consumables budget for the awardees’ research projects.

Available Programmes

Eligible programmes include physical and biological sciences in recognised state and federal universities in Nigeria.

Requirements

To be eligible for the ESI Research Grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Undergraduate Status: Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a Nigerian University.

Final Year: Must be in the final year of their undergraduate studies.

Research Project Timeline: Should have commenced or be planning to start their undergraduate research project on or before May 2024.

Science Program: Must be studying a biological or physical science course.

Personal Statement: Provide a personal statement (maximum 200 words) explaining why the applicant deserves the grant and a detailed breakdown of how they intend to spend the grant money (not exceeding #50,000).

Supervisor’s Support: Must submit a supporting statement from their research supervisor (maximum 200 words).

Application procedure and deadline

Applications can be completed through the online portal. Application deadline is March 15, 2024.
