Maryam Umar, a 22-year-old school girl born without arms, is seeking assistance from the government, non-governmental organizations and well-meaning Nigerians to enable her to complete her registration at Gombe State University, where she has been offered admission to study Economics.
Despite her disability, Maryam is highly motivated and has the ability to perform various tasks with her toes, including writing and household chores.
According to Maryam, her parents do not have the financial resources to support her academic pursuit and she currently survives on alms from residents.
She scored 182 in the UTME and has four credits, including Mathematics and English in NECO.
Maryam is from a large family, with eight siblings, and is the only one born without arms.
Despite her disability, she sees her situation as an opportunity to show her ability, and she is determined to succeed in life. She plans to have eight children and start a business after completing her education.
Maryam’s school fees amount to N81,322.50, which she cannot afford to pay.
She is appealing for support from public-spirited individuals to help her fulfill her dream of obtaining a university education and achieving her goals. Maryam’s story is an inspiration to all, and her determination to overcome her challenges is a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit.
