The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sokoto State University (SSU) branch, has declared an indefinite strike, shutting down all academic activities in the institution.
The strike, which took effect on Wednesday, follows the alleged failure of the university administration, governing council, and the Sokoto State government to address lingering demands raised by the union.
In a resolution reached at a congress meeting held at the Centre for Caliphate Studies, ASUU members expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s response, describing it as inadequate and lacking commitment.
As a result, the union resolved to suspend all academic activities, including statutory meetings, examinations, student supervision, marking, and grading of scripts.
The resolution, signed by ASUU-SSU Chairperson Dr. Saidu Abubakar and Secretary Hassan Aliyu, also activated a strike monitoring committee to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
The indefinite strike underscores the deepening crisis in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector, with concerns over funding, welfare, and working conditions remaining unresolved.
