Babcock University has alerted students, parents, and the general public to disregard a fake notice demanding the payment of ₦250,000 as a “SIWES Programme Support Fee,” which has been circulating among students.
In a statement signed by Dr. Joshua Suleiman, Director of Marketing & Communication, the University described the notice—titled “Notice to Post-SIWES Students”—as “fake, fraudulent, and ill-motivated.”
Dr. Suleiman clarified that the document did not originate from his office or any official department of the institution and does not bear his signature, immediately calling its credibility into question.
“The said notice is FAKE, FRAUDULENT, and ILL-MOTIVATED. It did not originate from me nor from the Department of Marketing & Communications and should be completely disregarded,” he said.
He further condemned the perpetrators of the scam, describing their actions as “malicious and deceptive.” Students, parents, and guardians were urged not to make any payments into unauthorized accounts or fall victim to fraudulent communications.
Babcock University emphasized that all official information regarding SIWES or any other payments is released through verified University channels such as the official website (www.babcock.edu.ng), the Registrar’s Office, or duly signed circulars.
The University noted that it has initiated steps to identify and bring the culprits to justice, warning that such fraudulent acts are “morally reprehensible and contrary to the values of honesty, integrity, and accountability” upheld by the institution.
Babcock University, a Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher learning, reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency and safeguarding its students from exploitation.
