The Bauchi State Government, through the State’s Ministry of Education, has appealed to communities across the state to take full ownership of the public schools established in their domains.

Making the appeal via a press release, the ministry’s

Information and Public Relations Officer Jalaludeen Usman emphasised that community participation is not only essential but necessary in safeguarding the schools for sustaining the progress being made in the education sector.

He maintained that “One of the persistent challenges affecting schools is that of vandalism and theft of school property.

“In many cases, this happens due to a lack of community oversight. When communities are involved and invested, schools are safer, better maintained, and more respected.”

Jalaludeen while insisting that schools do not belong to the government alone, stressed that “It belongs to the community it serves.

“Everyone has a role to play in keeping these institutions secure.

“Residents should remain vigilant, support school administrators, and report any suspicious activities or individuals attempting to damage or steal school property.”

While noting that the present administration in the state continues to invest heavily into education, he revealed that schools were built, classrooms renovated just as furniture and learning materials were provided to make for conducive environment for learning.

He said protecting the investments requires partnership with the people.

The information officer reminded school heads and education managers that their responsibility is to serve with integrity.

“Anyone found to be complicit in the destruction or theft of school property will face appropriate consequences. There will be no exemptions.

“Education remains one of the top priorities of this administration. It is the foundation of progress. Communities are therefore encouraged to stand as custodians of every school around them.

“Let us work together to secure our schools and protect the future of our children,” Jalaludeen concluded.
