The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, has distanced itself from a fake social media account bearing the name of the university vice-chancellor, Sani Kunya.
This was contained in a press release issued on Monday by the university’s Director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa.
The statement reads “The attention of the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sani Usman Kunya, is drawn by a good samaritan, to a fake Facebook account opened in his name, obviously with the sole intent to scam innocent persons.
“A screenshot of a transaction with the good samaritan revealed a direct attempt to lure the person into surrendering a handsome amount of money to facilitate a supposed contract award.
“Given this, it has become necessary to alert the general public, especially our stakeholders, that the Acting Vice Chancellor will never engage in any official transaction with anyone on social media, nor demand any financial favour for any purpose whatsoever.”
Zailani added that the Acting Vice-Chancellor does not have a Facebook account and has instructed no one to manage any social media account on his behalf.
