Benue state raises NYSC allowance

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has raised the allowance of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in the state.

The governor made the announcement during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch B Stream one Orientation course at the NYSC Orientation Camp Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area, on Wednesday August 2, 2023.

He revealed that “serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state would now receive an improved monthly allowance of N15,000, while medical doctors among them would be entitled to a monthly allowance of N100,000.”

The governor emphasised that this increase in allowances is aimed at boosting the morale of the corps members and recognising the value of their services in promoting unity within the country. Regardless of their places of primary assignment, every corps member posted to Benue State will receive the N15,000 allowance from the state government, while medical doctors will enjoy the higher N100,000 allowance.

Governor Alia urged the corps members to seize every opportunity during their service year to impact humanity positively and improve themselves.

He encouraged them to contribute their skills and talents to the growth and development of both the state and the nation at large.

Emphasising the importance of their role as ambassadors of change, the governor urged them “to exhibit values like integrity, innovation, and compassion.”

Abe Ashumate, the Benue State coordinator of the NYSC, commended the governor’s generosity and commitment to the welfare of corps members, especially for providing essential items and food during their time at the camp.

Prior to this announcement, all categories of corps members in Benue State were receiving a monthly allowance of N10,000 from successive state governments.

The increase in allowances is seen as a positive step towards recognising and appreciating the efforts of these young individuals serving their fatherland.
