Charterhouse inaugurates first African school in Lagos

Charterhouse, a renowned British independent educational institution, has inaugurated its first-ever African school in the vibrant city of Lagos.

The institution’s leadership has expressed their commitment to offering a world-class education experience inspired by British traditions and values to the students of Nigeria and beyond.

At a press conference held to introduce Charterhouse Lagos, the Founding Head, John Todd, shared the institution’s vision.

He said, “With the opening of Charterhouse Lagos, we are bringing a school to Nigeria with a vision to opening a new chapter in the educational story of West Africa.

“We are bringing world-class education to Nigerian and African parents inspired by Britain and delivered in Lagos.

“We welcome your children to unprecedented learning opportunities, supported by a world-class purpose-built campus and a first-class learning programme.”

Todd emphasised the historical significance of this venture, stating, “We are extremely proud to be the first Charterhouse school on the African continent, and we will ensure the very best of Charterhouse’s traditions and values are infused within our walls.”

The construction of the purpose-built school is currently underway and is expected to be fully completed in 2028.

Charterhouse Lagos is set to welcome its inaugural class of primary school students in September 2024, with plans to accommodate students from Years 1-13, covering ages 5 to 18.

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, praised the establishment of Charterhouse Lagos as a monumental moment in the partnership between the private and public sectors of the economy.

He underscored the importance of providing quality education that broadens horizons and equips students with globally accepted skills, positioning them for success on the international stage.
