Young Progressives Party (YPP) gubernatorial candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has come down hard on Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, over what he described as a disturbing collapse in the state’s educational standards, as revealed by recent national examination results.
Chukwuma expressed dismay over the state’s performance in the latest Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and National Examination Council (NECO) results, noting that Anambra, once a consistent leader in educational excellence, has now embarrassingly fallen behind.
“Today, we have witnessed a shocking decline in some of the key indicators of development in our State,” Chukwuma said in a statement issued on Monday. “Once the leading light in education for over a decade, the current administration in Anambra State has caused this gain to wither.”
He pointed to the latest national rankings where Anambra, once proudly sitting at the top, now occupies the 28th position. “Today, Anambra State has significantly dropped in education rating, much so that our state now comes behind Abia, Imo and Ebonyi States in terms of students’ performance,” he added.
The YPP candidate described the development as unprecedented and alarming. “Under the current Anambra State Government, we have witnessed such a decline to the extent that Anambra State was unable to feature in both regional and national lists of top states with students who made five credits in their senior certificate examination. It has never been this bad in over a decade.”
He went further to condemn the situation as a betrayal of the people’s trust. “This is a promise broken into pieces. A gain now lost. For us as a people, it is a dangerous signal for our State and the future of our kids,” he lamented.
Chukwuma, who will contest the November 8, 2025 gubernatorial election, assured that if elected, his administration would take swift and deliberate steps to reverse the downturn and restore Anambra’s status as an education powerhouse in the country.
