The deadline for submission of entries for the 11th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition has been extended by two weeks. Initially scheduled to close on August 22, 2025, the new deadline is now Friday, September 5, 2025.
Announcing the extension, Mr. Uzodinma Odenigbo, Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, said the decision was taken in response to requests from teachers nationwide who sought additional time to complete their applications.
“We’ve received significant interest from teachers across the country who requested more time to prepare and submit their entries. This extension is to ensure that as many deserving teachers as possible can participate,” Odenigbo explained.
The competition, open to all secondary school teachers in Nigeria, is part of Nigerian Breweries’ intervention in the education sector. It seeks to restore pride to the teaching profession while celebrating excellence and dedication among educators.
Odenigbo reiterated that interested teachers can submit entries online at www.maltinateacheroftheyear.com, or alternatively download, complete, and return the forms via email to maltinateacheroftheyear@heineken.com.
Winners will be rewarded with prizes ranging from recognition plaques and cash for state champions, to life-changing benefits for the overall national winner. The grand prize includes a trophy, N10 million cash prize, capacity development training abroad, and a school infrastructure project worth N30 million. The first runner-up will receive N5 million and a trophy, while the second runner-up will get N3 million and a trophy. Each state champion will be recognized with a plaque and N1 million.
Established in 2015, the Maltina Teacher of the Year is funded through the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, which was founded in 1994 to contribute actively to the development of the education sector in Nigeria. Since inception, the Fund has impacted all six geopolitical zones of the country, constructing and furnishing over 400 classrooms, libraries, and sanitary facilities in 74 communities, while also providing scholarships to tertiary students.
The Maltina Teacher of the Year is proudly endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Education, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS), and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
