ECOWAS Partners with LASU to Train 1,000 Students in Leadership Development

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Youth Council (EYC) is set to train 1, 000 students of Lagos State University (LASU) in leadership development through the National Youth Leadership Development Symposium.

The council stated this during a courtesy visit to LASU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji – Bello.

The group was led by 19-year-old Emmanuel Agida, who was appointed ambassador by the ECOWAS Youth Council in April 2022.

Speaking during the meeting, Agida said the programme is part of EYC’s effort to train young Nigerians in the act of quality leadership and mold them into leaders capable of bringing necessary change in the country.

Agida had last year partnered with the University of Lagos to train 700 students and in 2021 trained 50 young leaders whilst serving as the Special Assistant to the Commissioner for Women Affairs in Osun State.

The vice-chancellor praised Agida for his strong presentation and promised that the university would give the initiative its full support.

“I thank you for choosing to organise the leadership development programme at LASU. We have over 35,000 students who are leaders in their own right. We will help you with this project; we are investing in the next generation of leaders and this is a good place to start,” she said.

Agida, who met with the vice chancellor in the company of the President, Junior Chamber International Nigeria (JCIN), Lagos State University Chapter, Dohou Success, presented Olatunji-Bello with an Award of Excellence and a compilation of his activities. The Leadership Development Programme is scheduled to begin in May 2023.
