The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked reports claiming it received a sponsorship request from a 15-year-old Nigerian student allegedly selected to represent the country at the International Mathematics Olympiad in China.

In a press release dated October 19, 2025, and signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, the ministry stated:

“The Federal Ministry of Education wishes to state clearly that it is not aware of the report circulating online regarding a supposed sponsorship request for a 15-year-old student said to have qualified to represent Nigeria at the International Mathematics Olympiad in China.”

According to the statement, the ministry affirmed there is no record or correspondence in its files indicating any such request for sponsorship from any recognised body.

The statement further advised:
“Accordingly, any relevant or verifiable information regarding this matter should be formally presented to the Ministry for necessary action.”

Education Ministry Denies Sponsorship Request for Maths Olympiad Student, the release added, urging the public to disregard unverified reports and verify all education-related matters through official communication channels.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency and continuous support for outstanding Nigerian students, adding that all such matters would be handled through due process and proper verification.
