In a bid to combat the rising threat of drug abuse among teenagers, Egan Junior Grammar School, Egan-Igando, Lagos, played host to NASFAT Lagos Zone 2 on March 5, 2025, as part of the organization’s 30th-anniversary activities.
The sensitization campaign, themed “Zero Tolerance for Drug Abuse,” aimed to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse and equip them with the knowledge to make informed choices.
Led by the Zonal Chairman, Engr Abdulganiyu Jumah Adebayo, the NASFAT delegation included prominent members such as Alhaja Ganiyat Owolawi (Zonal Guidance and Counseling Coordinator), Alhaji Akin Balogun (Zonal Vice Chairman), Hajia Aisha Mosunmola Busari (Zonal Women Affairs Secretary), and Engr Fatai Ayoola Shodunke (Zonal Publicity Secretary), among others.
During the morning assembly session, Hajia Aisha Mosunmola Busari educated students on the risks and consequences of drug abuse, using real-life examples to highlight its impact on health, education, and future aspirations. The Zonal Guidance and Counseling Coordinator, Alhaja Ganiyat Owolawi, further engaged the students through an interactive session and a short drama presentation, emphasizing the need to resist peer pressure and seek positive influences.
In his address, Engr Abdulganiyu Jumah Adebayo stressed the urgent need for collective action from parents, teachers, religious leaders, and government authorities to tackle the menace of drug abuse. He reiterated NASFAT’s commitment to promoting a healthier and drug-free society through continuous advocacy and education.
The Principal of Egan Junior Grammar School expressed gratitude to NASFAT Lagos Zone 2 for selecting the school as a key partner in the campaign, emphasizing that such initiatives play a crucial role in shaping students’ mindset towards responsible decision-making.
As part of the campaign, NASFAT also visited the Citadel of Grace Mission International Orphanage Home in Igando, where they provided educational materials and flex banners to reinforce the message of drug abuse prevention. The orphanage’s management lauded NASFAT’s efforts, acknowledging the importance of early intervention in protecting young people from societal vices.
