Eid al-Fitr: 5 fun-filled ideas to make your day memorable

Eid al-Fitr is a joyous occasion for Muslims around the world. It marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which is observed by fasting from dawn to dusk.

After a month of abstinence from food and spiritual reflection, Eid al-Fitr is a time of celebration for Muslim families and friends.

Edugist has highlighted 5 fun-filled ideas to make your Eid al-Fitr day memorable:

1. Attend Eid prayer: The day starts with Eid prayer, which is held in mosques or outdoor venues. The prayer is followed by a sermon and an exchange of greetings, where people hug and wish each other “Eid Mubarak” or “Blessed Eid”. This is a great way to start the day and feel the community spirit of Eid.

2. Prepare a festive breakfast: Eid al-Fitr is a time to indulge in good food, especially after a month of fasting. Prepare a festive breakfast perhaps with traditional dishes.

3. Dress up in new clothes: It is a tradition to wear new clothes on Eid al-Fitr day. Men wear Islamic outfits like jalabiya (thobes) and other traditional outfits while women wear colorful abayas. Dressing up in new clothes adds to the festive spirit of the day.

4. Visit friends and family: Eid al-Fitr is a time to strengthen family bonds and visit relatives and friends. You can plan a visit to your loved ones’ homes or invite them over to your place. This is also a great opportunity to exchange gifts and share the joy of Eid.

5. Participate in community events: Many Muslim communities organise Eid festivals and events such as charity drives. Participating in these events is a great way to meet new people, learn about different cultures and give back to the community.

Final thoughts

Eid al-Fitr is a time to celebrate and connect with family, friends and the community. Whether it’s attending Eid prayer, preparing a festive breakfast, dressing up in new clothes, visiting loved ones, or participating in community events, there are many fun things to do on Eid al-Fitr day. May the spirit of Eid bring happiness, peace, and blessings to all. Eid Mubarak!
