Ekiti urges varsities to equip graduates with problem-solving skills

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has stressed the imperative for Nigerian universities to cultivate graduates armed with the requisite skills and mindset to effectively address the nation’s pressing challenges.

Speaking at the 8th convocation ceremony of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji urged universities to prioritize research endeavors aimed at confronting critical national issues and fostering the development of graduates who are adept at providing innovative solutions.

During the convocation, a total of 6,563 students received their degrees, including 114 First Class, 2,762 Second Class Upper, 2,793 Second Class Lower, and 688 Third Class graduates, along with 163 master’s, 36 PhD, and seven postgraduate diploma recipients.

Additionally, honorary doctorates were conferred upon Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Senator Solomon Adeola, and Yusuf Gagdi for their notable contributions to their respective fields.

Governor Oyebanji urged universities to overhaul their curricula to emphasize critical thinking, creativity, and entrepreneurship, underscoring the importance of nurturing graduates capable of addressing the nation’s challenges.

Commending the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, for its remarkable growth and scholarly achievements, the governor pledged continued support for the institution while emphasizing the need for enhanced research efforts to produce problem-solvers.
