Ex Student Union leader Oyeniyi stands firm with PDP amidst resignation controversy

Erstwhile Osun State Polytechnic Students’ Union PRO, Timileyin Oyeniyi, the former personal assistant on media to Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla, has expressed unwavering commitment to the political party he has served since joining in 2014. Despite the tumultuous circumstances surrounding his departure, Oyeniyi remains resolute, emphasising that he will not leave the party due to personal conflicts.

Reflecting on his time with Senator Ajagunla, Oyeniyi recalled a significant moment when the senator approached him during a party meeting. “Ajagunla met me in the party, and I assured him that my dedication to our collective mission is paramount,” he stated. His investment in the party’s vision and ideology has been substantial, and he affirmed that he will not allow an individual’s actions to dictate his loyalty.

“I have invested in this party and equally align with its ideology,” Oyeniyi asserted. His commitment extends beyond individual relationships, as he expressed strong belief in the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke and the transformative vision for Osun State. “I believe in Sen Ademola Adeleke’s government and the leadership of the party. It is vital for us to remain united in our efforts to bring about positive change,” he said.

Oyeniyi, a former Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Polytechnic Students’ Union, remains steadfast in his support for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its principles.

However, the senator’s office offered a different narrative regarding Oyeniyi’s resignation. In a statement signed by Tunde Badmus, the Chief of Staff to Senator Ajagunla, Oyeniyi was described as having been sacked for gross misconduct, negligence of duties, and disrespect towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The senator’s office claimed that Oyeniyi’s dismissal resulted from insubordination and disloyalty, which Senator Ajagunla deemed unacceptable.

Oyeniyi, in an interview with Osun Defender, provided insights into the circumstances surrounding his resignation, citing dissatisfaction with the senator’s leadership style and unresolved salary arrears, stating, “He owed me five months’ salary with no prior communication.” He also dismissed claims of being sacked, asserting that he had informed the senator of his resignation days before making it public.

Despite the senator’s assertion, Oyeniyi insists that no formal dismissal process was followed, questioning, “How can you sack me after I’ve already resigned?” This controversy has generated significant public interest, leaving a cloud of uncertainty as both parties present conflicting accounts.

Oyeniyi’s departure from Senator Ajagunla’s team has not diminished his enthusiasm for the party’s goals. Instead, he sees this moment as an opportunity to reflect on his values and continue contributing to the political landscape in Osun Central. As he prepares for the next chapter, Oyeniyi remains focused on advocating for the party’s principles and supporting its leadership in their quest for progress.

His determination to stand firm in the face of adversity highlights the complexities of political affiliations and the resilience of individuals committed to their ideals, even amidst personal conflicts. Oyeniyi’s future endeavours within the party may very well serve as a testament to his dedication and unwavering belief in the vision of a united political front for Osun State.
