The Federal Polytechnic Ayede, located in Ogbomoso, Oyo state, held its second matriculation ceremony, welcoming 381 new students into the institution. The event took place at the polytechnic’s temporary site in Iresa-Pupa.

During the ceremony, the rector of the polytechnic, Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, addressed the matriculating students, urging them to uphold moral standards and avoid engaging in social vices. He congratulated them and assured them that upon graduation, they would receive two different certificates: one for academic achievements and another for entrepreneurship skill development.

Abdul-Hameed emphasized the importance of equipping students with the skills and mindset to become job and wealth creators, rather than mere job seekers.

He encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunities provided by the institution, acknowledging that they would face challenges but assuring them that their efforts would be rewarded.

The rector also highlighted the institution’s vision for the students, stating that the polytechnic aims to prepare them to be successful entrepreneurs. He revealed that the polytechnic has introduced intensive training and exposure to skill acquisition and business development programs.

Through partnerships with relevant bodies, the institution has facilitated the registration of numerous student businesses with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

Abdul-Hameed emphasised the importance of learning, dexterity, and morals, which constitute the polytechnic’s motto. He urged the students to take their studies seriously, develop their skills, and maintain high moral standards. He also cautioned them against engaging in social vices such as cultism, prostitution, and examination fraud.

The rector expressed his pride in the institution’s progress and its commitment to academic excellence and entrepreneurship training. He highlighted the various achievements of the polytechnic, including the accreditation of 12 academic programmes, approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to train students and trainees in technical skills, and the support received from TETFUND and other organizations.

The matriculation ceremony concluded with the administration of the matriculation oath to the new students, marking the beginning of their journey at the Federal Polytechnic Ayede.

With its focus on academic excellence, entrepreneurship, and skill development, the polytechnic is positioning itself as a world-class institution that adds value to human development and produces innovative graduates. The students have made the right choice in joining the institution, which aims to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills for a successful future.
