Kaduna State is set to welcome a new era of technical and scientific education as the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, commences operations in September 2024, according to the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa.
Speaking at the official handover of the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) by Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, Dr. Alausa confirmed that the institution will admit its first batch of students in the upcoming academic year.
He assured stakeholders that the National Assembly has approved personnel, overhead, and capital budgets for the university, with additional funding secured through TETFund allocations for 2024.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that the new university aligns with the Nigerian Education Sector Renewal Initiative, which prioritizes Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEMM) education.
He described the establishment of the institution as a transformative achievement for Southern Kaduna and beyond, fostering innovation and economic growth.
The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmed, hailed the university as a hub for research, technological development, and entrepreneurship, commending Governor Sani and Senator Sunday Marshall Katung for their contributions to the project.
Governor Uba Sani reaffirmed Kaduna State’s commitment to ensuring the success of the university.
He highlighted the need for highly skilled lecturers and academic staff, emphasizing that infrastructure alone is not enough. The governor also acknowledged the role of TETFund in supporting Kaduna State University (KASU) and expressed optimism about similar backing for the new institution.
