The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising quality education for the girl-child as a key driver of national development.
Speaking at the 2025 International Day of the Girl-Child celebration in Abuja, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, assured that government efforts toward promoting inclusive education will continue to strengthen opportunities for girls nationwide.
Ahmed, represented by the Director of Senior Secondary Education Department, Binta Abulkadir, said the ministry had begun implementing the National Policy on Gender in Basic Education, aimed at eliminating gender disparities in access, education, and competition among children.
“We have started implementing the National Policy on Gender in Basic Education, which seeks to ensure that every girl, regardless of background, has equal opportunity to learn and thrive,” she said.
The event, jointly organised by the Federal Ministry of Education, the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, and other development partners, focused on advancing investment in girls’ empowerment and education across Nigeria.
The National Coordinator, AGILE Project, Amina Haruna, noted that this year’s celebration was designed to “inspire global action, investment, and support for girls’ empowerment” as part of broader efforts to build a more equitable society.
