The federal government has reiterated its dedication to improving quality education, with a strong emphasis on integrating girl-child education into national development.

This commitment was reaffirmed by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, during the inauguration of the Quality Education and Girl-Child Initiatives in Abuja.

Dr. Alausa outlined key focus areas, including Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEMM) education, quality assurance, and digitalization of educational data. As part of these efforts, the minister inaugurated specialized committees to address leadership, counseling, technical aspects of child education, and strategies to tackle the issue of out-of-school children. He urged committee members to approach their responsibilities with dedication and innovation.

Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive and equitable education, particularly for the girl child. She highlighted the Luminah Girl-Child Initiative, a project aimed at bridging education gaps, fostering innovation, and equipping youths—especially young girls—with essential skills for the future.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Iman Suleiman, emphasized the need for inter-ministerial collaboration to strengthen educational policies and ensure sustainable progress. Additionally, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, stressed the importance of digital literacy in closing the gender gap.

He announced a new initiative to engage NYSC corps members in training market traders on digital skills, thereby expanding access to technology-driven learning.

In her presentation, Professor Ahmad provided an in-depth analysis of quality education and girl-child education in Nigeria, identifying key challenges and proposing strategic solutions.
