The Federal Government has pledged to deepen partnerships aimed at recognising and empowering teachers across Nigeria.
In an X post on Sunday, the Federal Ministry of Education stated that at the 11th Maltina Teacher of the Year Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abuja, Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad, said, “Teachers remain the backbone of our education system. We are committed to celebrating their sacrifices while ensuring they receive the support and resources they deserve.
The Ministry urged the organisers, Nigerian Breweries’ Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, to “expand award categories and share digital materials for wider participation, including in all 108 Unity Colleges.”
The Honourable Minister of State for Education also called on the National Education Awards Programme to “present a clear framework to guide potential collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.”
The ministry reaffirmed its openness to partnerships that align with the Renewed Hope Agenda, while NEAP pledged to “revive the reading culture, support girl-child education, and empower youth through structured reforms.”
NEAP Chairman, Anslem Ijebor, highlighted the “Catch Them Young” initiative, saying it “rewards excellence with scholarships of ₦500,000, ₦300,000, and ₦200,000 for top performers in WAEC, NECO, and BECE.”
Now in its 11th year, the Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative has “honoured 278 teachers with prizes, training, and support,” and remains “one of Nigeria’s most impactful platforms for celebrating educators.”
