The Federal Government has launched the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) Digital Portal and the Strategic Vision for Nigerian Teachers in a bid to reposition the teaching profession and advance education reform in the country.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, unveiled the initiatives in Abuja, describing them as milestones in professionalizing and modernizing Nigeria’s education sector. According to him, the TRCN Digital Portal will streamline teacher registration, licensing, renewals, and professional development while also serving as a comprehensive national database.
Accessible via www.trcn.gov.ng, the portal enables teachers nationwide to register, update records, process licenses, check examination results, and print certificates remotely.
Dr. Alausa also introduced a Strategic Vision for Nigerian Teachers anchored on professionalization, digitalization, accountability, equity, and global alignment. He emphasized the introduction of a Teacher Ethics and Criminal Record Verification Framework, noting that it is a safeguard for classrooms and should be viewed as protective rather than punitive.
Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, said the reforms align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring teachers are equipped with digital tools to enhance their work.
TRCN Registrar, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, described the project as part of her 100-day digitization plan, which also includes reforms to streamline the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) into five core areas and the launch of an AI-powered lesson plan generator.
Hon. Mohammed Isa underscored inclusivity measures for persons with disabilities, while international partners, including the British Council and the British High Commission, commended the portal for enhancing transparency and motivating teachers.
Dr. Patrick Adeleye, CEO of TeckPlus Digital Solutions, noted that the platform addresses long-standing gaps in Nigeria’s teacher data system.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and professional standards, stressing that teachers remain central to Nigeria’s national development.
